License to Drive
Rio City visitors earn their
driver's licenses once they pass the initial short
simulator test. License come in two levels, Permit and
License, based on the individual's driving skills and
safe driving record. Those who put in 60 minutes of safe
driving are promoted to a higher license level, enabling
them to drive their golf carts at higher speeds and
along restricted roads. On the other hand, safety
violations have the opposite effect: for example, a
driver may temporarily move from Advanced Level down to
Intermediate. Speeding and safety violations are
constantly monitored electronically by Rio City's
highly trained Safety Patrol.
The driver's
current information and level are displayed on a
seven-inch touch screen computer on the dashboard, as
well as a light indicator on top of the car. The light
indicator allows a Rio City safety officer to easily
determine the status of the driver.

Safety
Patrol
State-of-the-art technology is
utilized throughout Rio City, providing constant and
instant communication between safety patrols, safety
headquarters, and drivers.
A safety patrol officer is always on
duty to ensure visitors are following the rules and to
hand out traffic violations when needed.
Violations, for example speeding or
running a stop sign, have different point values, with
each point being equivalent to a minute of down time.
The safety patrol officer on duty has
a device that enables him or her to access the driver's
record. The officer also stays in constant communication
with Safety Headquarters, where the Rio City streets
are monitored 24 hours.
Some of this monitoring is also
displayed in the public areas, where parents can watch
their kids driving.
